The Forbidden Fruit

This post and the one below are written as part of a series of posts from Chewing The Fat followers on subject of sexuality. Go ahead and read and then read some more from here.

Most living creatures enjoy sex (some choose not to, but as long as it is their choice, one can only respect that). But the vast majority do. Some fluff their feathers to get it, some talk to get it, some pay to get it, some get married to get it and some get divorced to get it. Hell, there is even a huge industry helping the unimaginative to get it. The media feasts with it, it is the basic talk among teenagers, girl gossips or men comparing scores with each other. There is one but one group of people who are exempt from it; the disabled community. It doesn't matter if they are mentally or physically disabled, it is just assumed that they have no interest or any need for it. Majority of the parents and the carers cannot even tolerate the disabled masturbate let alone having sex with someone. I cannot even begin to think about what it would be to be a gay disabled person.

What a pity that even such a basic need necessiates advocates, education and taught respect. I wonder when will the society get it.

Power of Love

I remember the day like yesterday. The day my older son Robert Cem felt the power of love in his hearth. He was 12 at that time. It had started a couple of months before, with mentioning her name casually at home. Then it became clear that this beautiful blond girl from a year above was someone special for him. We bought presents for her from our holiday. He kept a diary with her name in it. Each time I read this diary I cannot help but think of scenes from Moulin Rouge film and hear the songs “Love is a many splendid thing”, “All we need is love”… Love indeed is a spelendid thing.

That day, the day he understood the power of love, his teacher found him laying on his back and crying on a bench at recess. Concerned, she asked what was the matter. Touching his hearth, Robert Cem said, “My hearth hurts, it hurts so much that it makes me cry. Because I love her, I want to see her, I need to see her, but, she is not here.”

I have never heard a more sincere and elaborate description of love to this day. It made my hearth hurt. And I cried, too.

You know what? I cried tears of joy. Because my son has found love. Because my son has so many nice words to explain all the feelings he has. And because I realised that day that my son will one day find the girl who will love him back and he will be loved.

Then I thought of all other boys and girls, men and women with disabilities who are denied the most basic, the most important, the most human need of love. Even at this age and day, they are not allowed to love and be loved in return. They are not allowed to be sexual beings. Because they are different. Just because they are different...

Enjoy this beautiful, sensual and sexual short film. I can see my son there. And many more like him.

Aşkın Gücü

Sanki dün gibi hatırlıyorum o günü… Robert Cem’in aşkın gücünü kalbinde hissettiği günü. Yazı defterini her okuyuşumda elimde olmadan aklıma Moulin Rouge filminden sahneler ve “Love is a many splendid thing”, “All we need is love” şarkıları geliyor…
